India launches digital OCI cards and cultural programs to strengthen diaspora ties.

India is blending digital tools and cultural immersion to build systematic ties with its diaspora. The government has fully digitized the Overseas Citizen of India card process, allowing holders to apply and update passports online and skip physical renewals after age 20, reducing paperwork and visits to consular missions.
Alongside the e-OCI rollout, the Know India Programme continues to engage diaspora youth. The 88th edition runs from 16 to 29 August 2026 for participants aged 18 to 28, showcasing India's heritage, innovation and development to encourage contributions toward the Viksit Bharat vision.
Both initiatives signal a technology-driven engagement strategy targeting professionals in North America and Europe. The moves aim to foster long-term economic and diplomatic links with the Indian diaspora.
