The Supreme Court on Tuesday criticized the Maharashtra government for excessive delays in the trial of a foreign national, warning that it would publicly expose the state if it continued to oppose bail without ensuring speedy proceedings.

A bench of justices expressed strong displeasure over the slow pace of the trial, noting that the foreign national had been in custody for an extended period without a resolution. The court said it would not tolerate further delays and directed the state to expedite the process.

The bench warned that if the government continued to oppose bail while failing to expedite the trial, it would be compelled to expose the state's conduct in open court. The case involves a foreign national whose identity was not disclosed in the proceedings.

The court's remarks came during a hearing on a bail plea filed by the accused, who has been in custody for several years. The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing for further arguments on the matter.
