Khosla family buys Seattle Seahawks for record $9.612 billion, pending NFL approval.

The Khosla family, led by billionaire venture capitalist Vinod Khosla, has agreed to purchase the Seattle Seahawks for $9.612 billion, setting a new record for an NFL franchise sale. The transaction is subject to approval by the league's owners.
The sale comes from the estate of late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who owned the team since 1997. Proceeds from the sale are expected to go to charitable causes, as Allen had pledged to dedicate the majority of his wealth to philanthropy.
The $9.612 billion price tag surpasses the previous NFL record of $6.05 billion paid for the Denver Broncos in 2022. The Seahawks, founded in 1976, have won one Super Bowl and are valued among the league's top franchises.
Vinod Khosla, co-founder of Sun Microsystems and founder of Khosla Ventures, is a prominent figure in technology and venture capital. The Khosla family's acquisition marks a rare instance of an Indian American family owning a major U.S. professional sports team.
The deal now moves to the NFL's finance committee for review, followed by a vote of the full ownership. Approval requires at least 24 of the 32 team owners to vote in favor, which is expected to occur in the coming months.
