SpaceXAI Grok 4.6 Launches: GPT-5.6 Performance at Half the Price

The model scored 61 on Artificial Analysis's Intelligence Index, tying OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol Max and surpassing Moonshot AI's Kimi K3. It ranks third globally behind Anthropic's Claude Opus 5 and Fable 5.

SpaceXAI focused on reducing operational drift in long-running AI tasks. Extended post-training with synthetic reasoning and technical data, plus reinforcement learning in web development and system design, improved self-verification and first-try success on multi-stage projects.

Standard API pricing starts at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens for prompts under 200,000 tokens, undercutting rivals like GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude Opus 5 by more than half. Prompts exceeding that threshold incur doubled rates of $4 and $12 per million tokens.

Grok 4.6 is available via the $30 monthly SuperGrok plan in Grok Build and in the Cursor code editor. Cloudflare, OpenRouter, and Vercel also host API access.

Adoption faces regulatory and reputational hurdles. UK and EU regulators are investigating historical data handling and safety controls, and the Grok brand has a history of content governance controversies.
