Sanjay Verma, a former Indian diplomat, argued that coordinated international efforts against organized crime networks will directly improve security for Indians living in Canada. He pointed to extortion, human trafficking, and drug smuggling as key threats driven by extremist groups operating across borders.
Speaking on the issue, Verma emphasized that such criminal activities have specifically targeted the Indian community in Canada. He linked the rise in these crimes to elements that exploit transnational networks to evade law enforcement.
The former envoy called for stronger collaboration between Indian and Canadian authorities to dismantle these operations. He noted that a unified global response is essential to curbing the flow of illicit goods and protecting vulnerable diaspora populations.
Verma's remarks come amid growing concerns over the safety of Indian nationals abroad. He stressed that reducing organized crime would not only benefit the diaspora but also strengthen bilateral ties between India and Canada.
