Want to die as an Indian: 94-year-old Andhra woman renounces US citizenship, meets collector to officially become Indian

A 94-year-old woman originally from Andhra Pradesh has renounced her United States citizenship to officially become an Indian citizen again. She met with the district collector to complete the formalities, expressing her desire to die as an Indian.

The woman, who had acquired US citizenship earlier, decided to give it up to return to her roots. She approached the local authorities in Andhra Pradesh to initiate the process of regaining Indian nationality.

The collector's office confirmed that she submitted the necessary documents for renunciation of foreign citizenship and reacquisition of Indian citizenship. The procedure involves verifying her original Indian citizenship and processing the renunciation of her US passport.

Officials said the woman's application will be processed under the Citizenship Act, which allows former Indian citizens to reclaim their nationality. She stated that she wanted to spend her remaining years in India and be buried in her homeland.
