San Marcos Hindus Create Cultural Sanctuary

The temple, located in a former church building, serves as a gathering place for prayers, festivals, and community events. Its creation was driven by a group of professors from Texas State University who sought a dedicated space for Hindu worship and cultural activities.

Sri Sanatan Dham hosts weekly Sunday prayers, yoga sessions, and celebrations for major Hindu festivals such as Diwali and Holi. The temple also offers language classes in Hindi and Sanskrit for children, aiming to preserve cultural heritage among younger generations.

The community raised funds through donations and volunteer labor to convert the building into a temple, complete with traditional Hindu iconography and a meditation hall. Organizers say the space has become a vital resource for the growing Indian diaspora in the San Marcos area.
