Sanjay Mehrotra, an Indian-American engineer, served as the president and chief executive officer of Micron Technology from May 2017 until his retirement in February 2025. Under his leadership, the semiconductor company expanded its memory and storage solutions globally.
Born in India, Mehrotra earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He co-founded SanDisk in 1988 and held various executive roles there before joining Micron.
During his tenure at Micron, the company reported record revenues and invested heavily in manufacturing facilities in the United States, including a $40 billion memory chip plant in New York. Mehrotra also focused on diversifying Micron's product portfolio beyond DRAM and NAND flash memory.
Mehrotra's retirement was announced in November 2024, with the board appointing him as chairman emeritus. He was succeeded by Micron's former chief operating officer, Manish Bhatia, who became CEO in February 2025.
