The Carnegie Corporation of New York has named four Indian Americans to its 2026 Great Immigrants list, which recognizes naturalized citizens who have made significant contributions to the United States. The honorees include individuals from fields such as technology, medicine, and the arts.
The Indian American recipients are Dr. Rajiv Shah, president of the Rockefeller Foundation; Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and Google; Dr. Vivek Murthy, former U.S. Surgeon General; and author Jhumpa Lahiri. Each was selected for their leadership and impact in their respective domains.
The list, established in 2006, honors immigrants who have enriched American society through their work and civic engagement. This year's 38 honorees come from 24 countries and represent a range of professions, including academia, business, and public service.
Carnegie Corporation President Louise Richardson said the honorees exemplify the contributions of immigrants to the nation's vitality. The foundation noted that the award highlights the importance of immigration in fostering innovation and cultural diversity in the United States.
