Hyderabad biz man and BJP leader booked over Rs 24.53 cr NRI fraud

A Hyderabad-based businessman and Bharatiya Janata Party leader has been booked for allegedly defrauding non-resident Indians of Rs 24.53 crore. The case was registered by the Cyberabad police following a complaint from an NRI who claimed to have been cheated.

The accused has been identified as a local BJP functionary and owner of a real estate firm. According to the complaint, the businessman lured NRIs with promises of high returns on investments in property and other ventures.

The complainant alleged that the accused collected large sums of money from multiple NRIs but failed to deliver on the promised investments. When the victims demanded their money back, the accused allegedly avoided them and stopped responding to calls and messages.

Police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating and criminal breach of trust. An investigation is underway, and authorities are expected to question the accused soon.

The incident has raised concerns among the NRI community in the region, with many calling for stricter regulations to prevent such frauds. The police have urged other potential victims to come forward and file complaints.
