Indian-Origin MIT Faculty Honored with Major Engineering and Science Awards

Two Indian-origin faculty members at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have been recognized with major awards in engineering and science. The honors highlight their significant contributions to their respective fields.

Professor Arup K. Chakraborty, a chemical engineer and immunologist, received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. His work focuses on understanding the immune system and developing therapies for infectious diseases and cancer.

Professor Sangeeta N. Bhatia, a bioengineer, was awarded the National Medal of Science. She is known for her research in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, including the development of microdevices for disease detection.

Both awards are among the highest honors bestowed by the U.S. government for achievements in technology and science. The professors were recognized for their pioneering research and its impact on society.
