Pathak, who has lived in Fremont for over two decades, announced her candidacy at a kick-off event on Saturday, July 18, 2026. She currently serves on the city's Human Relations Commission and volunteers with local mental health organizations.

Her campaign will focus on public safety, housing affordability, and supporting small businesses. Pathak said she wants to bring a collaborative approach to the council and ensure that all residents have a voice in city decisions.

District 4 covers the central and eastern parts of Fremont. The seat is currently held by Councilmember Raj Salwan, who is term-limited and cannot seek re-election.

Pathak is the first candidate to formally announce for the seat. The filing period for the November election opens later this year.

A native of India, Pathak moved to the United States for graduate studies and has built a career in the tech industry. She has also been active in local community groups, including the Fremont Rotary Club and the India Community Center.
