Ivy League, UK universities accept Duolingo English Test for admission; check list

Several Ivy League institutions and universities in the United Kingdom have begun accepting the Duolingo English Test as proof of English proficiency for international student admissions. The test is an alternative to traditional exams like TOEFL and IELTS.

Among the Ivy League schools accepting the Duolingo English Test are Yale University, Columbia University, and the University of Pennsylvania. In the UK, universities including the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and Imperial College London have also added the test to their list of accepted English proficiency exams.

The Duolingo English Test is an online, on-demand assessment that can be taken from home. It costs $49 and takes about an hour to complete. Scores are reported within 48 hours and can be sent to institutions for free.

The move reflects a broader trend among universities to offer more flexible and accessible testing options for international students, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic when many testing centers were closed or operating at reduced capacity.
