Five Indian-origin students have been named national finalists for the 2026 3M Young Scientist Challenge, a premier middle school STEM competition in the United States. The 10 finalists were selected from a pool of applicants nationwide.
The competition invites students in grades 5 through 8 to submit a one to two minute video describing a scientific solution to an everyday problem. Finalists are chosen based on their creativity, scientific knowledge, and communication skills.
The Indian American finalists will compete for the title of America's Top Young Scientist and a $25,000 prize. The winner will also receive a mentorship session with a 3M scientist.
The 2026 challenge marks the 18th year of the competition, which aims to foster interest in STEM fields among young students. The finalists will present their projects to a panel of judges later this year.
