DHS and DOT Sweep Removes 800+ Unsafe Truck Drivers from US Highways

The three-day sweep, conducted from July 28 to July 30, targeted commercial drivers on Midwestern freight corridors. Inspectors from ICE's Homeland Security Investigations, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and state highway patrols conducted roadside checks focusing on illegal, unvetted drivers and unsafe vehicles.

The operation resulted in more than 800 truckers being taken off the road, including over 50 illegal aliens and more than 30 drivers who failed English language proficiency tests. Hundreds of out-of-service orders were issued, and multiple arrests were made, according to preliminary results announced by DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin and DOT Secretary Sean Duffy.

Mullin said the removals are part of a broader effort to protect American lives from dangerous drivers. Duffy emphasized the partnership builds on prior progress to secure roads and restore integrity in the trucking industry, warning that illegal operators' days on U.S. streets are numbered.

This operation follows a partnership announced last month between DHS and DOT to investigate fraudulent and illegal practices at commercial driver's license schools, targeting illegal aliens obtaining CDLs to operate semi-trucks.
