National Security Breach : PM Modi's security breached in Indian Congress ruled Punjab.

News reported by Bharti Kundal (Melbourne) published by NRI Herald 5th Jan 2022

In a major security breach, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy was blocked by the protestors on 5th January 2022 evening while he was enroute to the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala. The convoy was stuck on the flyover for 15-20 minutes.

As per the statement from Indian Ministry of Home Affairs ,the travel plans were communicated in advance to the Punjab Government and as per the procedure the Punjab Government had to deploy contingency plans and make all necessary arrangements for logistics and deploy additional security for movements by road.

In a press release Ministry of Home Affairs blasted the Punjab Government of clearly being unprepared with the necessary requirements for the PM’s security. A detailed report has been sought from the state government and has been directed to take strict action.

PM Modi was on a visit to Punjab on 5th January where he was to lay the foundation of multiple development projects worth Rs.42,750 crore amongst which were the projects for Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, Mukerian-Talwara Broad Gauge railway line, PGI Satellite Centre at Kapurthala and Health infrastructure enhancements.

There were furious reactions to this security incident by the top BJP leadership including the likes of Jagat Prakash Nadda where he wrote in a tweet

To make matters worse, CM Channi refused to get on the phone to either address the matter or solve it. The tactics used by the Congress government in Punjab would pain anyone who believes in democratic principles.”

While some Congressmen seemed to be charged up at this major threat:

While the opposition parties accuse the current Indian government of destroying democracy, here is a state that couldn’t provide a safe passage to the PM who was on a visit to Punjab laying down the perfect example of how a democracy should not be.

This was not the first incident against BJP and its leadership facing security breaches in the states ruled by other political parties, these situations were seen multiple times during West Bengal elections as well.

One of India's renowned journalist Ms Nupur Jain tweeted:

"Will today be remembered s the day Congress tried to eliminate the Prime Minister of India"

While PM of the nation stands with his folded hands to gift the people of Punjab on Guru Purab by repelling Farm Laws and honoring the sentiments of Punjab, this was a major let down to the country’s sentiments by blocking his convoy and jeopardising his security.

Whatever the differences maybe, in a democratic setup the culture of street power is a dangerous trait, and such security breach could end up in a disaster.
